Slotcars

Slotcars are an ideal complement to Porsche ownership. They represent fast cars, race tracks, and celebrate race wins.

The Mike O'Hare Collection

Being a motorsport journalist from the Maverick Region, it’s only natural for Mike’s collection to revolve around Porsche race cars. The stunning livery, weathered look, and highly detailed models showcase the intense commitment required by Porsche, the race car teams, and the drivers.

The Bill Kruder Collection

It started when Bill was about 10 (1965) years old. His uncle Bill, who he is named after, bought a Strombecker 1/32 track system for him. He set up in his garage with fold down 4X8 much like what he has today in his garage. Fast forward to 2000 he bought a Ninco system for his girls and him to have some fun with. So 25 years later, 30+ cars later, they still having fun.

Mike Preston's Slot Car Collection

Mike receive his first slot car set when he was 10 years old. He and his brother spent countless hours racing around a simple figure 8 track during long winter months in Canada.  A few years later, it was put away in place of things with real motors.

More than fifty years later, he got the bug once more. This time he wanted to do a permanent race track with scenery. The only space in the house was was limited to a 10' by 11' room that was his home office. He envisioned a track that could drop down on hinges from the wall and then be raised up to hide the track away when necessary. He hand built all the track features using hobby landscape materials to create waterfalls, ponds, vegetation and rock gardens. He hand built the garages, pit lane and track towers and added lighting throughout. Track official figures were built to scale to be scattered around the track to add a bit of realism. There is a diorama of a '69’ 911 that crashed into the rocks and was left there to rust away. It was fun to build everything by hand.

Mike likes to recreate racing scenes that might have been back in the day, and take pictures of those scenes. It is a real treat to see race cars that are featured in Panorama and Slipstream that he has recreated to scale. Finally being retired, “it is just fun to spend time and run the cars around the track and relive times from my youth.”  “Sometimes it is nice not having to grow up.”
